religion and entrepreneuship

You know..... within this one year focusing on entrepeneurship, I felt very comfortable reading about it, and even the area and topic changed.Business and entrepreneurship.. is very close, need to define it appropriately. I have been thinking about the title..(actually i was thinking about it yesterday in a very short time). I would be putting the title as
"RELIGION AND CULTURE: BUSINESS ORIENTATION AMONG MUSLIMS IN MALAYSIA...".. sounds very weird...

oppsss.. my hubby is here to fetch me ... happy break fasting..! Wasalam

starting my literature

"Does culture of a religion has impact on perception and attitudes towards business", this will be my problem statement. But of course, this will refine along my literature.

I will study the comparison between the cuture (or maybe countries) influence the attitude towards business. This will be cross culture and a study between religion and culture. In Malaysia, we have different types of races, and different types of Muslims, including Indian Muslim, Chinese Muslims and Muslims by originality. Each of them has different attitudes, trend and peceptions towards business, rite? Eg... why the indian muslim or chinese muslim are more advanced than the original Muslims or Malay.. ? I guess this is more to sociological kind of study, but i will find my way to look alike business school perspective...

With this i have to start reading on the protestant group, coz they are among the business pioneer and more business minded, roman chatolic could not beat them. Browsed on Timur Kuran, as Prof NI asked me to follow his writing style (he is prof in Duke Uni!..I to follow his style... owh.. !!!). I even had dowloaded articles about Max Weber. His most famous work is his essay The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, which began his work in the sociology of religion. Check his details at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Weber.

topic after topic

I had few discussions with Prof NI after our class of Islamic Perspective in Business... (I guess the course had change me drastically!!). Been talking about Halal as my topic area... I was so confident to start on this topic and had few discussions to seek an idea with some of great visiting professor/ lecture and even senior PhD students whom I think is relevant... .. how eager my self into this topic, rite?
Until last Friday, we (my self, najib and Roslan), officially met him in his room and you know....... i was so shocked when he mentioned my topic is not interesting!! What happened to our previous discussions...?
Prioir to that, again, I have to change my direction... not on halal issue, but still in the area of Religion and Business.....and again ... new topic for me... sad me... :(. But I know i'm the lucky one chosen into this path and I also know Allah is All knowing and All alert!! IsyaAllah... Allah will help me... Amin ..
Hope this will be the final and will stick to this new topic. Moving forward, I need to prepare my self for qualitative research (Prof NI views, quantitative is very dry and no rich data!)
btw, najib and roslan, we are in the same boat!!! hahaha...

my supervisor

Currently, I am in second year, 3rd semester. My area is International Business (I applied IB coz my MBA was IB majoring). Way back on 1st semester, I were assigned to be under Dr S.Z.A's supervision and he suggested Women Entrepreneurs topic. My movement were very slow, coz need to attend course work and at the same time i have to working (I resigned on second semester). Entrepreneurship is a big area... and difficult for me to find the gap as well as narrow it down. Alas, I focuses on 'social networking of women entrepreneurship in Malaysia...' had met President of Usahanita (very nice lady) and PIC from NAWEM.
All of sudden, Dr. S.Z.A left UM for better opportunity at Middle east ...(sad me, neway, best of luck to you, Dr!). Thought to maintain with him, but many advised me not to as he is no longer attached to UM. I appealed for prof NI to be my new SV after performing solat istikharah. And of course, changing supervisor means, I have to change everything..... And new challenge begun...

where should i begin with..?

I guess this is my platform to voice out my disappointment, stress, angry, happy, tension.. and other mixture of feelings of my phd endevour...

Ok, let me start....

I am a student of University Malaya, pursuing my PhD... ambitious enuff, rite..?

I quit from telecommunication industry. I was an enthusiastic career women, chasing for position, recognition, promotion, increment.. and the list goes on...was an industry slave and thinking everything could be mine...hahahaa.. (evil's lough, hehe..). Enuff 'bout my jahiliyah period, coming back to reality......

Alhamdullilah, Allah has shown me the right path, and here i am... in University Malaya, as a full time PhD student under government scholarship. The real of me has just begun....
